The UCC and Char community in Assam

My article with Dr Ashraful on the UCC and the minority community in the Char areas of Assam was published in Forward Press. Without improving the socio-economic status of the Char community, the UCC will not be significant. There were already a couple of laws regarding social issues such as child marriage, polygamy, dowry, and others that existed in Assam. Still, the UCC was brought to appease core voters, not for the welfare of the minority. 

असम के चार क्षेत्रों में यूसीसी और अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय पर डॉ. अशरफुल के साथ मेरा लेख फॉरवर्ड प्रेस में प्रकाशित हुआ था। चार समुदाय की सामाजिक-आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार किए बिना, यूसीसी महत्वपूर्ण नहीं होगा। असम में बाल विवाह, बहुविवाह, दहेज और अन्य सामाजिक मुद्दों के संबंध में पहले से ही कुछ कानून मौजूद थे। फिर भी, यूसीसी को मुख्य मतदाताओं को खुश करने के लिए लाया गया था, न कि अल्पसंख्यकों के कल्याण के लिए।
