Five Judges are elevated to the Supreme Court of India

Journalist and legal commentator Abhinav Sekhri has criticised the Supreme Court Collegium over recent judicial appointments, alleging that fiercely independent and upright judges are consistently being overlooked for the country’s highest constitutional court.
Referring to the proposed elevation of five judges to the Supreme Court, Sekhri said that some judges had superseded their seniors, while judges known for their integrity and independence, including Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice G.S. Sandhawalia and Justice Atul Sreedharan, lacked institutional backing within the Collegium.
He argued that the judiciary was being weakened through “silence, compromise, opacity” and the “normalisation of mediocrity over brilliance and integrity." Sekhri also warned that if the erosion of institutional credibility continued, people could begin losing faith in the legitimacy of the judicial system itself.
